CLEANING PERSONAL COMPUTERS

The author, Chris James BSc (Hons) was formerly Director of Education of the British Institute of Cleaning Science.  Prior to that appointment he was a senior lecturer at Ealing Tertiary College.

The purpose of the booklet is to assist those concerned with the cleaning of personal computers.  Sections are devoted to:

  • The Cleaner and the Client:  Both should agree technical terms and have a clear idea of what is expected.  The booklet describes the conditions under which cleaning should, and should not, take place.
  • A Guide to good results:  This section describes in detail the method whereby the cleaning task should be planned and how the cleaning should be carried out.
  • Selection of Materials:  Selection of cleaning materials is extremely important when dealing with computers.  Included is advice concerning protective gloves, cloths, disposable wipes/tissues, foams, mini-vacs, cotton buds, anti-static and cleaning solutions.
  • How Long, How Fast, How Much?  This final section discusses how long it should take to clean a personal computer and the interval between cleaning operations.
