Published in 1998, this book has recently become available in the U.K.  Written by the Director of Training, Racine Industries Inc., U.S.A., it also contains a chapter on ‘Indoor Air Quality’ by the Director of  HOST Research and Development.

 

The book covers fibres used in carpets, manufacturing and installation methods.  The soiling process is discussed and eleven pages are devoted to a comparison of carpet cleaning methods, including a helpful comparison chart.

 

The HOST system is explained in detail.  General principles of professional carpet cleaning and special cleaning techniques are given.  Methods of cleaning Sisal, Coir and Jute floor coverings and Oriental, Chinese and Persian rugs are covered in detail.  Also covered are Berber, Flocked and Cotton carpets.

 

Yellowing is explained in some detail, together with causes and how to remedy the situation.  Optical brighteners are also discussed.  Discussion on soil lines is also included.
