This manual was published in 2000 with the permission of NHS Estates, an Executive Agency of the Department of Health, on behalf of the Controller of Her Majesty’s Stationery Office.
The aims are to:-
Raise the profile of environmental cleanliness in hospitals.

Provide an audit tool to assess standards of cleanliness in hospitals.

Provide forms and checklists that can be reproduced for use by audit teams.

Give recommendations on the recruitment and retention of staff.

Recommend the provision of a “rapid response” team to deal with specific incidents.

Ensure that hygiene in hospitals is of the highest standard.
-
Reduce the occurrence of infection within the NHS.
